DEAR VENUS

Image
Dear Venus, I heard that you were born on 7.11.21. What an easy day to remember. Your grama tells me that she is enjoying time with you. And I'm sure you're mommy must be so happy. I was driving the other day and your daddy's mix came on through the speakers. As I listened to the wonderful sounds I started to think that you will never meet your daddy in person, and I felt really sad. Then I started to feel really angry because he will never get a chance to hold you. Tears came down my cheeks.  I'm a dad of two amazing daughters and I know how wonderful it is to be a daddy of girls. I once read that "Daughters are gifts from God." You're a gift from God. And then I thought that we are never alone. God is always next to us. And then I thought, if God is next to us then you're daddy must be right there with him and he's definitely next to us watching over us. Your daddy was one of the greatest men I ever met and we started this project so that his me

MAGNUS ASBERG JOINS THE VENUS LP

Hello everyone, we have another step forward on the Venus LP project. Magnus Asberg (C-Soul, Romana Records) has joined the team and will deliver a tune for the record. We are super excited about it as Magnus was also touched by our friend Jose Raul. Here are a few words from Magnus about Jose Raul. "I got introduced to Jose Gonzo Gonzo by my dear friend Adam Collins. It was a very special relationship from the get-go. He signed two ep’s from me immediately and we both worked passionately on the two releases. The second release is probably one of my favorite releases I have done so far in my life. The name of the release is Remember Love with a remix from Adam Collins. When I think of Jose, I  Remember Love, I think of Jose's love for music, it was large XXXXXL large. I feel blessed to have worked with such a nice lovely guy & very much looking forward to work on the Venus Lp project in his memory." Here is a mix from Magnus that he has made available. CACAO RECORD TO RELEASE THE VENUS LP

Image
Exciting news family. Cacao Records will release the Venus LP. They are a  Central American rooted label with a knack for refreshing exotic house & techno flavors, destined for late-night dancefloors. They are  Berlin-based  and run by brothers Lloyd Keene and Kevin Keene.  I met the Keene brothers when I went down to Guatemala for the second time to play in a festival that Jose was helping out with run by Casta. I remember playing my set outside and then after I went into a side room. The place was packed and everyone was grooving to their tunes. I started bopping my head along with these guys. I said to myself, these guys know how to get the dancefloor moving. Later we ended up running into each other at the hotel that we stayed at. It was an older hotel with no tv and yet so quiet. I really enjoyed my stay there. It was in the heart of Guatemala City. It's always refreshing when you meet people and the kindness from their spirit wants us to root for them. That's the type

Our Time In New York

Image
The other day I was driving from whole foods and I sensed Jose next to me and it reminded me of our trip to New York. Jose flew out to Chicago to play a gig at Smartbar. We then had 2 gigs out in New York City so we got in my car and drove all the way there. One of the gigs we had was in a basement and it was so dark down there where I had a hard time seeing my records. I remember sitting with one of his friends outside at a cafe. I also remember meeting another one of his friends who was an actor who had just gotten a few acting roles. I remember driving around looking for parking spots.  On the last day of our trip, we were headed back home. When we got to my car, my driver's side window had been smashed in. I was so angry and yet he helped me stayed calm. We went back into his friend's place, which was locked but we somehow found a way in through a key that was by the window sill. We found a roll of packing tape and proceeded to tape up the whole window.  On our way back t

Jose Raul

I met Jose Raul for the first time when I went to Guatemala. It was my first international gig. I remember carrying all my records through security. They were heavy. When I got to Guatemala City airport I was there with my just married wife Sandra. Coincidently, she is Guatemalan. I stood there outside the airport but he wasn’t there. I was feeling a bit scared, actually a lot scared. There were all these guys standing outside and some guy asked me if I wanted to use his phone. I did. Then he seemed mad when I wouldn’t take a ride from him. Jose, his usual calm self, told me he was close. He pulled up and with open arms he hugged me. He came with somebody else from his crew.  And off we were. My wife, Jose, and a friend. Little did I know that it was going to be one of the most memorable experiences in my life. Little did I know that I was going to gain a brother from another mother. Little did I know that he would one day in November 2020 pass due to Leukemia. The story just begin an
